In traditional skin care formulations, water is usually listed first on the ingredient label because it's the ingredient with the highest amount in the formula, often up to 70% of the product.
Where does it come from?
Water may appear lower in the OLIVEDA product label INCIs because it is simply a breakdown from other ingredients, beyond the emulsion base. For example, after harvest, the olive leaves are washed and pressed to extract the active ingredients. After washing some water may remain.
More potent ingredients: Because waterless products don't dilute the active ingredients, they're more nutrient-dense. This means you get more benefits from antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and fatty acids.
No preservatives: Because there's no water, there's no need for preservatives, which can irritate the skin.
More organic: Because there's no water, waterless products can have a higher amount of organic ingredients than water-based products.
More sustainable: Waterless products require less packaging and have a longer shelf life. They also use less water, which can conserve water for other uses, such as drinking.
More compact: Waterless products are more dense and compact, allowing for more nutrient-dense product per ounce.
Nourishing: Waterless skincare products are often made with beneficial oils. At OLIVEDA we use our bioactive cold-press Arbequina Olive Oil which has a powerful ability to nourish and hydrate the skin.
How is it used in our products?
Water appears on the label, for example, in F38 Purifying Cleansing Gelfrom OLIVEDA. It is simply a breakdown of other ingredients in those products. For example, after harvest, the olive leaves are washed and then pressed to extract the active ingredients. After washing some water may remain.
