Information

Decyl cocoate is an ester created from the natural fatty acids of coconut oil that is widely used in skincare products for its emollient and conditioning properties and also as a texturing agent.

Where does it come from?

Decyl cocoate is sourced from coconut oil, a natural oil extracted from the kernel or meat of mature coconuts. The fatty acids obtained from coconut oil undergo a chemical process called esterification, where they react with decyl alcohol to form decyl cocoate. This process results in a substance that maintains the moisturizing benefits of coconut oil while being more stable and less greasy.

What are the benefits?

What are the benefits?

  • Moisturizing: An excellent emollient that can soften and smooth the skin by locking in moisture in the skin's outer layers.
  • Non-Greasy Feel: Unlike some oils, decyl cocoate provides a silky, non-greasy finish, making it ideal for formulations with a lightweight feel on the skin.
  • Spreadability: It contributes to the texture and spreadability of skincare products, ensuring that they apply smoothly and evenly.
  • Skin Conditioning: Decyl cocoate contributes to skin conditioning, leaving it feeling soft, supple, and hydrated.

How is it used in our products?

Decyl cocoate is used, for example, in 003 Dope Your Glow Face Cream from OLIVEDA. Included for its lightweight and non-greasy properties that are ideal for oily or combination skin. It is also used as a texturizing emollient that also contributes to the absorption of other active ingredients.
