You don't know where to start?

What is it?

Sodium hyaluronate, a salt form of hyaluronic acid, is widely used in cosmetics to hydrate and rejuvenate the skin. It has a lower molecular weight than hyaluronic acid, allowing it to penetrate the epidermis and improve hydration from the deeper skin layers. As a postbiotic, it also nourishes and supports the skin’s microbiome. Its higher bioavailability means it is more readily absorbed by the skin, providing multi-level hydration and rejuvenation.

Where does it come from?

Sodium hyaluronate is naturally present in the body. For skincare, it is derived via a fermentation process using beneficial bacteria to extract hyaluronic acid from plant sources. Sodium acetylated hyaluronate is a derivative of hyaluronic acid with acetyl groups, it also penetrates the skin better and stays in it longer than regular hyaluronic acid.

What are the benefits?

What are the benefits?

  • Moisturize the skin: Sodium hyaluronate attracts moisture in skin cells, reducing dryness and flaking by increasing skin hydration. Its low molecular weight provides a greater hydrating effect compared to HA.
  • Rejuvenating: By hydrating the skin, sodium hyaluronate improves the appearance of creases by decreasing depth, and it improves elasticity.
  • Soothing: Sodium hyaluronate can soothe skin irritation. It promotes tissue repair and helps to reduce symptoms of many skin conditions.
  • Repairing: Sodium hyaluronate promotes cell multiplication and tissue repair, aiding in wound repair. It also has purifying effects that protect wounds.
  • Hydration: It can hydrate oily skin without blocking pores or causing greasiness.

How is it used in our products?

Sodium hyaluronate is used, for example, in F86 Corrective Vegan Hyaluronic Face Serum and F74 Regeneration Intense Face Cream from OLIVEDA. It is included for its rejuvenating and moisturizing properties and ability to improve tautness levels, smooth out creases, and hydrate the skin. Its small molecules penetrate the skin quickly and hold up to 1,000 times their weight in water. This helps replace water lost in the dermis as the skin matures and minimizes the signs of maturing skin. Sodium hyaluronate adjusts its moisture absorption based on the relative humidity in the air. It also scavenges reactive oxygen species created by UV rays, helping to minimize sunspots and other dark spots.
