Where does it come from?
Sodium hyaluronate is naturally present in the body. For skincare, it is derived via a fermentation process using beneficial bacteria to extract hyaluronic acid from plant sources. Sodium acetylated hyaluronate is a derivative of hyaluronic acid with acetyl groups, it also penetrates the skin better and stays in it longer than regular hyaluronic acid.
Moisturize the skin: Sodium hyaluronate attracts moisture in skin cells, reducing dryness and flaking by increasing skin hydration. Its low molecular weight provides a greater hydrating effect compared to HA.
Reduce the appearance of wrinkles: By hydrating the skin, sodium hyaluronate improves the appearance of wrinkles, decreases wrinkle depth, and improves elasticity.
Reduce skin inflammation: Sodium hyaluronate can soothe skin inflammation. It promotes tissue healing and controls the activity of inflammatory cells, helping to reduce symptoms of conditions like rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis.
Heal wounds: Sodium hyaluronate promotes cell multiplication and tissue repair, aiding in wound healing. It also has antimicrobial effects, protecting wounds from infection.
Hydration: It can hydrate oily and acne-prone skin without blocking pores or causing greasiness.
How is it used in our products?
Sodium hyaluronate is used, for example, in F86 Corrective Vegan Hyaluronic Face Serum and F74 Regeneration Intense Face Cream from OLIVEDA. It is included for its anti-aging and moisturizing properties and ability to improve firmness levels, smooth out fine lines, and hydrate the skin. Its small molecules penetrate the skin quickly and hold up to 1,000 times their weight in water. This helps replace water lost in the dermis as the skin ages, fighting wrinkles and other signs of aging. Sodium hyaluronate adjusts its moisture absorption based on the relative humidity in the air. It also scavenges reactive oxygen species created by UV rays, helping to fight sunspots and other age spots.
